Laos - Vang Vieng & Vientiane

Image
I just realized I haven't blog anything in May, I swear it's the lazy bug that's distracting me! #lameexcuse This is going to be my final post on Laos trip (yeah ~!). After spending a few days in Luang Prabang, we boarded a bus to Vang Vieng. Vang Vieng is famous for its outdoor activities, including tubing and kayaking on Nam Song River. If you are not keen on water activities, trekking and rock-climbing in the limestone mountains are good options too.  Nam Song river where all the water activities take place.  It's beautiful especially with its limestone karst landscape.  Our dinner view. We wanted to order "Happy" Pizza (Vang Vieng is famous for its "Happy" food :D) but I am too kiamsiap to pay like double for a normal pizza with special ingredient that's not good for health o_0?  timid to give it a try. After surveying and walking around the town, we signed up a package for tubing and kayaking the next day. Unfortu...

Laos - Luang Prabang (2)

On the last day in Luang Prabang, we hired a bike to Kuang Si Waterfall. It's about 2km south of Luang Prabang. If you have ample time in Luang Prabang, I highly recommend you to visit Kuang Si Waterfall. It's a beautiful travertine waterfalls with numerous turquoise pools (it reminds me of JiuZhaiGou although I haven't been there before :p). We passed by the Bear Rescue Centre while walking towards the waterfall. I love this photo. Taken by Bin :) Look at the color of the pool. At the top of the fall. Good place for swimming. The con is you have to change in the public - e.g. behind the tree trunks, standing on the mud :| (yeah, that's what I did & have to ensure no one's around) #beingadventurous Another of my favorite shot by Bin. After the visit at Kuang Si waterfall, with plenty of petrol in the tank, we decided to tour around. Being adventurous, we stopped by a few villages to check out their Wats. An old and ruined Wat. A ...

Laos - Luang Prabang (1)

You can travel to Luang Prabang by bus but it will take you around 11-13 hours, that's half a day gone on a bumpy road with endless potholes. Due to time constraint, we decided to take a flight, ticket's around USD 80+ per person.  Lao Airlines from Vientiane to Luang Prabang View from the flight Luang Prabang is a UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE city. The architecture of the houses are French-influenced. The city reminds me of Melaka. Our 1st destination is Haw Kham (after we dropped our luggage in the guest house. BUT... our great trip has been marred by 1 incident and it all started from this guest house! To be told later #makingyoucurioussothatyouwillcontinuetoreadon), the former royal palace and now national museum. Walking to Haw Kham. We are not allowed to take any photos in the palace. We walked to Phou Si the main hill in Luang Prabang after our visit at Haw Kham.  The stairway to Phou Si. It's not very steep but I am a weak lady ~ so it took me a whil...

Laos - Vientiane

You must be wondering "what about Taiwan?" when you see the title of this post. In order not to bore you, I've decided to blog about my Laos trip before I continue with my Taiwan posts. Yes, I know I am very considerate, you're welcome :p The trip was done between 6th of January 2011 - 13th of January 2011. It was winter in Laos and also the best time to visit Laos. We started our Laos trip in Vientiane (capital of Laos), then flew to Luang Prabang the next day followed by a stopover at Vang Vieng and back to Vientiane again.  We bought our air ticket to Luang Prabang from Laos Airlines once we landed in Wattay International Airport on the first day. After that, we took a cab to the city, found our guest house and headed out for our day in Vientiane. Lao tuk-tuk, similar to Thailand's tuk-tuk Had a walk next to Mekong river, construction going on here. Sunset at Mekong. Had our dinner at the road side. The typical clear soup noodle in Laos ...
